Cinnamon Honey Granola

Do you enjoy making your own granola? There’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of pouring a mix of sweetened oats, nuts, and dried fruit that you made yourself over a bowl of yogurt in the morning. Usually, people make their own granola because they want a healthier option. This is why we came up with this recipe for Cinnamon Honey Granola: replacing the processed sugar in your granola with beautiful raw honey will make it sweeter yet healthier too! Even if you are already using honey, using our high-quality raw honey will make your favourite recipe that much better. Our Alberta-made honey is pure, unpasteurized, and unfiltered, so you can be sure to get all these benefits when you eat it. You can feel good about baking it into anything you feed your family as an extra little nutritional boost!

For granola, we recommend our cinnamon honey, just because it adds such a nice flavour! If cinnamon isn’t your thing, either our liquid honey or our creamed clover honey would do the trick too. The liquid honey is easy to measure out and has a beautiful golden colour. On the other hand, our creamed clover honey is light in colour, tastes divine, and is considered Alberta’s premium honey! It has a smooth and creamy texture (think peanut butter) and dissolves easily in any baking. The choice is yours!

Tips for Baking with Honey

Before we get started, just a little reminder that baking with honey is a bit different than baking with processed sugar, and not just because of the health benefits! As we already mentioned, honey is actually sweeter than sugar, so you need less of it. You also need to remember to reduce your oven temperature by about 25 degrees F, since honey browns much faster than sugar does. And once you pass the one-cup of honey threshold, you need to make other adjustments too. To accommodate that amount of honey in your baking you need to decrease the liquid in your recipe by ¼ cup and add a teaspoon of baking soda.

If that sounds a bit daunting, not to worry! We have tailored this particular granola recipe to perfectly accommodate the honey factor, so you can just follow it as written. If you would like to try replacing the sugar with honey in other baking recipes, just remember three things:

  • Use about 25% less honey than you would sugar for the same results (see our handy conversion chart!)
  • Reduce suggested oven temperature by 25 degrees F
  • 1 cup honey = ¼ less liquid plus 1 tsp baking soda

Now, let’s get to the recipe!

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside
  • In a large bowl, mix all dry ingredients with a wooden spoon
  • Add the coconut oil, cinnamon honey, and vanilla
  • Mix with the same wooden spoon until all the dry ingredients are well-coated
  • Spread the mixture evenly onto the parchment-lined baking sheet
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, stirring halfway
  • You know it’s done when the oats start to turn slightly golden

Doesn’t this Cinnamon Honey Granola sound amazing? Such a quick and easy recipe for a delicious, healthy breakfast food with just the right amount of sweetness to keep it interesting. Tag us @albertahoneybee with your finished granola creations, we would love to see them!

Meringue Dessert with Blueberry Honey

Sometimes we have time to create luscious desserts from scratch, but sometimes we do not! If you are interested in a quick and easy dessert for your family (or even your guests!) that only takes minutes to prepare, Good Morning Honey can help! Try this Meringue Dessert with Blueberry Honey.

For this recipe, we are starting with a store-bought base. If you have some extra time and want to get fancy, you can make your own meringues or angel food cake.  We think vanilla meringues are the best complement to our pure and perfectly sweet honey, but angel food cake would also be delicious.

Meringues are topped with fruit and blueberry honey.Since this recipe calls for fruit, we recommend our blueberry liquid honey for an extra punch of flavour. This honey has a bold, delicious, and fruity taste. How do we make it taste like blueberries without adding blueberry flavouring to it? The bees of course! They use the nectar from the blueberry flower to produce this bold honey that is 100% naturally flavoured.

If you prefer a more neutral complement, our pure liquid honey is always an excellent choice too.

Let’s get to the “recipe”!

Ingredients:

  • Store-bought package of meringues (or an angel food cake)
  • 1-2 cups mixed berries like strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries, or other fruit if you prefer
  • 1-2 tbsp GMH blueberry or pure liquid honey, plus a little extra for drizzling
  • Fresh mint garnish

Instructions:

There’s really no way to mess this up! The suggested amounts of ingredients are very general, because it’s just a matter of what ratio of fruit to honey to meringues sounds good to you.

  • Put your meringues (or cake) on a plate and set aside
  • In a medium sized bowl, gently mix your fruit and honey with a spoon until it is well-coated
  • Spoon the honey-covered berries over your base of meringues or cake
  • Drizzle more honey over the whole plate
  • Add fresh mint leaves as a simple but pretty garnish

And there you have it, a beautiful and delicious dessert with almost zero prep time and no added processed sugar! These taste delicious on their own, but even better with a glass of homemade iced tea! GMH honey is incredibly healthy and includes enzymes, vitamins, and minerals. Our Alberta-made honey is pure, unpasteurized, and unfiltered, so you can be sure to get all these benefits when you eat it. You can feel good about including it as a sweetener in any dessert you make for an extra little nutritional boost.

Honey Biscuits

There’s nothing nicer than a fresh hot batch of baking powder biscuits on a cold winter evening, is there? Warm and comforting, biscuits are the perfect complement for soups and stews. Even better, we have found a way for you to incorporate our delicious honey as a healthy sugar substitute in this classic baked good! Raw honey is incredibly healthy and includes enzymes, vitamins, and minerals. Our Alberta-made honey is pure, unpasteurized, and unfiltered, so you can be sure to get all these benefits when you eat it. You can feel good about baking it into anything that you feed your family!

Biscuits made with honey are opened and drizzled with a little honey and a pat of butter.

You have a couple of choices when it comes to which Good Morning Honey product you want to use. Our liquid honey is easy to measure out and makes a delicious golden drizzle over your finished biscuits. On the other hand, our creamed clover honey is light in colour, tastes divine, and is considered Alberta’s premium honey! It has a smooth and creamy texture and dissolves easily in any baking. And if you decide to have a biscuit for dessert after your main meal, spreading some extra creamed honey on top of your honey biscuit is the ultimate sweet treat!

Tips for baking with honey

Before we get started, just a little reminder that baking with honey is a bit different than baking with processed white sugar, and not just because of the health benefits! Honey is actually sweeter than white sugar, so you need less of it. You also need to remember to reduce your oven temperature by about 25 degrees F, since honey browns much faster than sugar does. We have tailored this particular recipe to perfectly accommodate the honey factor, so if you are making it as-is you can just follow it as written.

However, if you are feeding a crowd and are making a giant batch of biscuits that requires you to use a large amount of honey, remember that once you pass the one-cup threshold you need to make adjustments. In this case, you would need to decrease the liquid in the recipe by ¼ cup and add a teaspoon of baking soda.

Now, let’s get baking!

Honey Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 tbsp cold butter, cubed or grated
  • 4 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¾ cup cold milk, plus 1 tbsp for brushing
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp Good Morning Honey (liquid or creamed)

Instructions:

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F
  • In a bowl, mix the salt and baking powder into the flour
  • Cut your butter into the flour mixture
  • Add the ¾ cup of milk and the honey and blend until just combined. Try to avoid overworking the dough
  • Turn the dough onto a floured board and knead it eight times
  • Then, gently press the dough flat until it is 1 inch high
  • Cut into rounds using a floured round cookie cutter
  • Roll out the excess dough and cut out the remaining biscuits. Repeat until all the dough is used
  • Place biscuits on a parchment-lined baking tray
  • Brush the biscuits with the 1 tbsp of milk
  • Bake them for 12-13 minutes

There you go! An easy recipe for delicious and healthy biscuits that are sure to satisfy. Tag us @albertahoneybee with your finished biscuit creations, we would love to see them!

Honey-Roasted Grape Crostini with Blue Cheese and Walnuts

Maybe you already know that Good Morning Honey makes deliciously flavoured honey that can be spread on or baked into a number of different foods, enjoyed on its own, or sipped in a cup of tea. We keep our honey authentic and simple, so it’s incredibly healthy and includes all the good stuff like enzymes, vitamins, and minerals. Our Alberta-made honey is pure, unpasteurized, and unfiltered.

Did you know that you can cook with our honey as well? In the recipe we are sharing today, we’ve paired our blueberry honey with a crisp crostini, flavourful green grapes, and blue cheese. Then we top it off with walnuts for even more crunch! If you have a nut allergy, you can easily omit this step and the result will still be delicious.

Grape Crostini with blue cheese is topped with our delicious blueberry honey.

We know that blue cheese is a bold choice! But we firmly believe that this recipe can convert any blue cheese naysayer. The grapes and honey pair exquisitely with it. This semi-soft cheese has a sharp, salty taste that comes in many flavours (and smells!) that range from quite mild to very distinctive. Here are a few of the different types that would be fantastic in this recipe: Gorgonzola (Italy), Bleu d’Auvergne (France), Maytag Blue Cheese (United States), and Roquefort (France). Try one or try them all! We are very confident that once you have tasted this bold cheese paired with our honey, you will be a blue cheese believer.

Another option for substitution for this grape crostini is the flavour of honey. We really like our blueberry honey for this recipe, but maybe you would like a different one! You can check out our different flavours and decide for yourself. Dandelion honey has a lingering flowery taste and a beautiful caramel texture. We love it in our tea, in savoury dishes, or on a fresh slice of sourdough bread, so it would be perfect for this!

Now let’s get to the recipe.

Honey-Roasted Grape Crostini with Blue Cheese and Walnuts

What you’ll need:

  • Seedless green grapes (about two or three bunches, stems removed)
  • 3 tbsp olive oil, divided
  • 1 French baguette thinly sliced (to make your own crostinis)
  • 2 sprigs of fresh thyme
  • 4-6 ounces Gorgonzola blue cheese (or a blue cheese variety of your choice)
  • 1 tbsp Good Morning Honey, plus extra for drizzling
  • 1/3 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F
  • Slice  baguette into approximately 20 pieces. Lay slices on a baking sheet and brush the tops with olive oil. Bake for about 5 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from the oven and allow them to cool slightly
  • In a large frying pan on medium heat, add olive oil, grapes, thyme, and honey. Saute grapes evenly and set aside
  • Spread the blue cheese on the top of each piece of bread. Place slices back into the oven and melt cheese until bubbly, about 3-5 minutes
  • Remove from the oven. Top with  3-4 grape pieces and chopped walnuts (optional) each
  • Drizzle with extra honey and serve immediately

The Best Honey Garlic Chicken Wings

Good Morning Honey makes a delicious spread on your morning toast or melted in your afternoon tea, but that’s not all you could be using it for. Our honey is the perfect sweetener for use in cooking as well. It is pure, has a beautifully distinct flavour and is a great addition to all kinds of culinary creations.

Try our recipe for The Best Honey Garlic Chicken Wings… This recipe is a family favourite!

Ingredients:

Wings:

2 lbs chicken wings

Pinch salt & pepper

1 tbsp oil

Sauce:

1 cup Good Morning Honey

3-6 cloves garlic, minced

1 tbsp vinegar

½ cup ketchup

½ cup soy sauce

2 tsp garlic salt

2 tsp paprika

2 tbsp fresh ginger

Instructions:

Put the chicken wings in a bowl and season with oil, salt, and pepper. Then, place the chicken wings evenly on a parchment paper-lined tray. For best results, make sure the chicken wings are spaced apart and not touching. This will lead to ultimate crispiness! Bake at 425 for 30-45 minutes until crispy.

While the chicken wings are cooking, prepare the sauce. In a small saucepan, combine all remaining ingredients and simmer on low-medium heat for 10 minutes. We think our smooth liquid honey works best for this recipe, as it whisks well with other ingredients quite effortlessly.

Once the chicken is crispy, remove from the oven and coat wings evenly with the sauce using a basting brush, reserving some sauce for dipping purposes.

Next, place the chicken wings back on the tray and cook for another 10 minutes. Finish with a garnish with green onions and serve hot with a bowl of warm sauce for dipping. Don’t forget a finger bowl of water or some napkins to keep your hands clean as you go. These wings are much too tasty to eat delicately, and you’re going to want to dig right in!

There you have it! The Best Honey Garlic Chicken Wings are one more way that Good Morning Honey can add a cheerful shot of flavour and delight to your kitchen table.  We hope that you enjoy this recipe and would love to see your foodie pics of the finished product on Instagram @albertahoneybee.

Homemade Iced Tea with Good Morning Honey

It’s almost patio season, and what could be better than sitting on your back deck drinking a glass of healthy homemade iced tea? Instead of sweetening your cool backyard beverage with highly processed and refined sugar or using a sugary store bought iced tea mix, consider making it at home with all-natural, healthy, delicious honey from Good Morning Honey to create a truly custom order drink.

What Is the Healthiest Way to Sweeten Iced Tea?

Honey not only tastes great but it is also incredibly healthy and includes enzymes, vitamins, and minerals. In fact, it is the only food that contains “pinocembrin”, an antioxidant associated with improved brain function. Our Alberta made liquid honey is pure, unpasteurized and unfiltered. If that is not enough to convince you, raw honey also contains phytonutrients that have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits.

Refined sugar and artificial sweeteners just can’t compete with our honey’s list of accomplishments. Sugar and sugar substitutes add nothing but empty calories and suspect chemicals to your drink, but when you use our Alberta honey you can actually feel good about your sweet patio treat!

How to Sweeten Iced Tea with Honey

Here is a basic Good Morning Honey Iced Tea recipe to get you started:

  • Boil 10-12 cups of water
  • Dissolve ½ cup of honey into the boiled water
  • Add 4-6 tea bags and a few slices of lemon
  • Let cool in the fridge
  • Serve cold over ice
  • Enjoy! ❤️🐝

This recipe is just a basic template. Good Morning Honey’s bees gift us with many different varieties of honey, so you can try them all and see what flavour you prefer! Creamed honey or maybe dandelion or blueberry?  You decide.  You can also experiment with different natural flavourings and add: fresh mint, lime, lemon, ginger, strawberries, raspberries, etc. You can also vary the type of tea (black tea, herbal tea).  If you’re feeling fancy, you could dress your iced tea up with edible flowers and serve your guests a cheerful sprig of lavender or marigold with their glass of homemade honey iced tea!
